COLORS OF THE YEAR: Pantone Reveals 2021 Palette

A New Year Needs New Color. 

Recently, Pantone announced not one, but two new colors of the year ahead of 2021: “PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray” and “PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.” In their press release, they described the symbolic combination of these independent colors as a union between optimism for the future year ahead, and a strong foundation upon which to build it.

To celebrate Pantone’s new palette, the Directory of Illustration presents a mini-gallery of illustrations from DOI artists inspired by the colors of 2021. Will we see more of these colors in the new year? Only time will tell, but here are 10 artists ahead of the curve: Lisa Grue, Stina Persson, LULU*, Kath Harding, Chris Long, Vivichen, Leilani Coughlan, Mantas Tumosa, and Paul Oakley.
