Massachusetts Librarians reviewed An African Alphabet by Eric Walters, published by Orca Book Publishers. This may be my favourite review thanks to my soft spot for libraries and fond memories of librarians. As a child my nose could always be found in a book and I loved hanging around libraries so much that I volunteered at the school library to get first crack at new books. I might have found a career as a librarian had art not chosen me first. Thank you, Massachusetts Librarians!

What did you like about the book? African animals, one for every letter of the alphabet, are depicted in this board book. The fresh woodcut-like illustrations are rendered in vibrant colors with deep hues and outlined in black. The animals may not be familiar to American audiences, but the engaging features of the animals and the beautiful colors are a visual feast. And there is pleasure to be had just in pronouncing the exotic animal names.
To whom would you recommend this book? This belongs in most board book collections, especially for kids who enjoy animal books.
