Title: Can’t Get Away
I was asked by Prof. Rick Lovell to visit his Advanced Digital Illustration course at SCAD-Atlanta and share how I work on my illustrations with his students.  It is always such a delightful moment to see Rick, and also share what I have in my creative kitchen with his students.  Fun!
I super quickly (I mean super quickly) showed how I colour digitally; especially, it is pretty fast when I use Pen Tool in Photoshop…  I overheard some student’s WTF gag.  Gurl, I can twirl on Pen Tool, give me Pen Tool so I can breathe.Â
So I chose this sketch that I did when I visited my ballet dancer friend at his ballet studio in Hell’s Kitchen.  I drew one of his friends on a break.  She just straightly went on her cellphone, and sipped tiny amount of water after her hands danced on the cellphone.  I guess checking on a cellphone is way more important than drinking water during her short break from the ballet practice.Â
This brought me to this concept.  We are so tied up with checking up overloaded amount of information on a cellphone when you try to work out.  There are endless new health products, facts from new studies, quotes, this and that…  Then you find yourself not doing anything but looking at your cellphone screen for hours.  Well, it’s basically me haha.Â
and eventually a balance ball and cellphone charger were added later.Â
It is pretty flat even though I have much texture on a piece, so I move on to layer shadows and highlights, which I normally paint by gouache on watercolour paper. Â
So here are some close-ups!
Anyway, hope y’all like it:)
