I recently had a blast doing a portrait of Chance the Rapper for the Tampa Bay Times’ Weekend section. The article is about how other musicians could learn from Chance’s rise by using aspects of the digital age (YouTube, social media, etc) to directly reach their audience. It was nice to get a portrait request as I have been wanting to add more of that type of work to my portfolio (and I’m happy to do more!).

Sketches. For most I went with a future-ish feel, but I threw in something iconic as a safety. The selected sketch wasn’t my first choice, but it actually ended up allowing me to experiment a lot with color.

I am really happy with the colors and subtle texture on this image, and I hope to push both aspects farther in future pieces.

Thanks for reading!

Enjoy the Day,
Chris
