Claudia and Ivan

Claudia and Ivan

Ivan shared a poem with Claudia as they ate lunch.

“The poem is by Rumi,†said Ivan. He read on.

“What I tell about ‘me’ I tell about you

The walls between us long ago burned down

This voice seizing me is your voice

Burning to speak to us of us”

After lunch Claudia took Ivan for a run.

The grasses swayed back and forth.

The trees smelled sweet in the sun

–and no thing was between them.

Ivan’s scarf danced about

as Claudia’s tail balanced each stride.
