Recently I was talking with my friend Brian about my semi-strange place between a designer and an illustrator. I find myself not knowing what to call myself. Am I a designer or an illustrator? Ever since I went fulltime freelance last March I’ve been getting a steady stream of illustration projects—which has been a result of my ongoing daily drawing project. My background is in graphic design. I received my BFA in Visual Communication Design and worked as a graphic designer within two design studios for about 6 years. I even taught graphic design at the Hartford Art School. That said, illustration has become more and more prominent in my career to the point now where I think it has taken the lead.
Brian suggested, “The illustrator formerly known as designer.” Ha! I love it.
