First spring flower found today

Astonishment!  Today I found this first flower just feet from the layers of snow.  I have no idea from where it migrated to sprout next to the east side foundation.  This is in a bed that I cleared from old juniper stumps and weeds.  Last fall I covered the area with a summer’s worth of compost, a layer of cardboard, and finally mulch.  I’m so happy to have found this beautiful blue sprout.  It is some kind of scilla, which will probably unfold to a star-shaped flower.
