I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read Pride and Prejudice and watched the numerous film versions. Whenever I need “comfort reading”, I turn to Jane Austen.
Last week I had a doctor’s appointment, and not wanting to touch the magazines in the doc’s office, I picked up my Mansfield Park paperback from the row of books by my front door. Poor Fanny Price, she is one of the little heroines my heart aches for like Jane Eyre and Little Dorrit.
Colin Firth is apparently the favorite film Mr. Darcy. Tee shirts abound on the internet with versions of favorite romantic Austen heroes. I still love Jane Austen, even though Mark Twain is quoted as saying, “Everytime I read ‘Pride and Prejudice’ I want to dig her up and beat her over the skull with her own shin-bone.” – Letter from Twain to Joseph Twichell, 13 September 1898
Well, I still like Mark Twain… and love, love, love Mr. Darcy.
Above is one of my Jane Austen illustrations available in my Etsy shop and my Cafepress shop. See my links page for both locations.
