Hand-embroidered vintage Balenciaga

February 12, 2016 Fashion illustrator Paula Sanz Caballero was commissioned to recreate three Balenciaga dresses from 1915, 1935 and 1945. “I tried to go close to the poses that models had at those periods, quite different to the way models pose nowadays.” The sophisticated elegance of each period of fashion is illustrated in hand embroidery using a blue and gold palette. Her work starts with sketches as shown below, then Paula moves to the delicate work of creating the garments and backgrounds from silk, wool crepe, feathers, leather and vintage fur.
