Heads Above the Rest: Steven Noble, Sam Kerr, Patrick Welsh, Robin Kachantones, Yuschav Arly
This week, we’re highlighting five talented Directory of Illustration artists, all of whom are featured in our “Heads Above the Rest” campaign. Read on for some interesting facts about each illustrator and take some time to explore more of their work.

Steven is internationally recognized for his woodcut, pen and ink, traditional engraving and steel engraving styles, as well as a variety of stylized scratchboard techniques. Over the course of his career, he has created many nationally recognized logos and ad campaigns for a large list of prestigious and high caliber clients such as Coors, Exxon-Mobil, JP Morgan and Mercedes-Benz. His expertise covers a wide range of subject matter including food, portraits, animals, maps, architecture, and corporate conceptual images.
Steve is one of the most hard working and prolific illustrators in the industry. He delivers excellence on every project, whether it’s an official White House logo or a new craft beer label.
Sam’s clients include Penguin Books, Channel 4, Coca-Cola, Waitrose, Phones 4U, Gillette, Paul Smith, Planet Of The Grapes, TIME Magazine, GQ, FHM, Red Bulletin, Popshot, LE GUN, The Guardian, and The Independent. He approaches his work with an equal amount of thought placed on the drawing style and concept. “For me, the two are inseparable and as important as each other. To get the best out of an idea, you have to match it to the right medium.”
While the majority of Kerr’s commercial work is straight portraiture, he explores broader graphic themes and ideas through personal projects and successful collaborations with brands like Marwood ties.

Robin’s brightly colored portraits bring out the unique character of each of her subjects. She began her career as a digital illustrator, working with clients like Texas Monthly, Coca Cola, and Fisher Price, earning many national awards and teaching illustration at Baylor and Texas State University. Based in Houston, she is also a fine artist, a popular speaker, and a custom pet portraitist.

Based in exotic Bali, Yuschav Arly has been working as a freelance illustrator since 2009.
Self-taught and consistently looking to experiment and develop his style, Yuschav passionately follows international fashion and trends, which he then pairs with his hauntingly realistic digital portraits to create cutting-edge campaign imagery for global brands. Yuschav’s work is perfect for the advertising, editorial and packaging markets, and is a hit with young adult publishing, working with Penguin, Harpercollins and Simon and Schuster.
