Once a month, I publish a blog post helping you with creativity, freelancing and the world of illustration and design. These blog posts are away from my illustration work, and are solely to help you succeed!
Following from my previous blog post , you will learn how to reignite your motivation.
You will discover how to battle through your lack of motivation and drive, so you can get back on the road to success. Motivation is a sometimes a hard nut to crack, but this post has all the tips and advice to help!
Why Do We Lose Motivation?
Being a freelancer, entrepreneur or business owner means were on a roller coaster journey. One week you’ll be high as a kite, and the next minute you might be on the floor, with everything going against you.
It can feel pretty destroying, as you try to get back to where you were before. Flying among the clouds, with lots of motivation and drive leading the way.
This is where your mindset plays an important part. Without it, it can lead you to give up on your goals and dreams.
According to the Business Dictionary: “Motivation is the internal and external factors that give an individual the desire and energy to be interested and driven to a role, job or subject, to reach a goal“.
You might of had motivation at the core of our personality beforehand, but it can disappear. From set backs to failure, everyone goes through a lack of drive at some point.
Before I go into tips to help with your motivation, don’t give up! If you only take one thing away from this blog post, it’s persistence. Be persistent, and you’ll reach your goals. Remember this: persistence, persistence, persistence – that’s the aim of the game!
Focus On Your Why
Think back to when you were full of motivation and passion. Why did you decide to go along this journey, why did you start your business, or why did you write your goals? You had many reasons to follow through with your plans.
There might of be many factors to your why. Lack of motivation comes from losing sight of your why.
You don’t know why you’re following your dream, as there’s nothing to aim for.
Write down why you embarked on this journey. Was it to be your own boss, a lifestyle that you wanted, or was it to learn a new skill? Whatever your why is, make sure you write it down and focus on it.
Write Goals And Go Back To Basics
Now you’ve discovered the why, you now need to set goals to make this more of a reality.
When we lose motivation, we lose our why and our goals. Go back to basics and split your goals into small chunks.
This makes goals easier to digest and complete. As you start to complete your tasks, you’ll become motivated by your achievements. This then snowballs, and your motivation is back in working order!
Important: When you start to complete your goals, make sure you celebrate them! Being positive with your mindset is crucial. Celebrating your goals keeps you motivated!
Look At Your Influences
Lacking motivation and drive? Recapture your passion and influences.
If you’re an illustrator, visit your favourite gallery. If you’re a fine artist, you might find a particular book inspiring. Or if you’re an designer, you may find that visiting a creative blog can help your creativity.
Whatever makes you passionate and motivated, re-connect with this part of your life.
Recapturing Your Motivation
These tips and tricks are here to recapture your motivation, and keep you on the straight and narrow.
Even though I pointed this out beforehand, persistence is key here. Don’t give up, and make sure you work out exactly why you want this.
I recommend you going through each of these steps in turn, before moving onto the next.
Write down your goals, look at your influences and discover your ‘Why’.
