We had an amazing day of outdoor painting at Lai chi kok park at the end of November; the sun was out, the birds were singing, we were lucky to catch the last of the autumn sun in HK. The weather since has turned a lot colder and wetter (Boo!).
It was my first time to do a painting outdoors so I was pretty excited!
The park here is very well kept and they have a beautiful variety of plants and trees. Not sure if u can see in the photo, but there were many koi fish and also turtles that were basking in the sunshine.:)
In regards of composition, I wanted to have the pagoda on the side of my canvas and the bridge above the middle of the canvas, in keeping with the rule of thirds guidelines.
I forgot to take a picture of my sketch as I was so engrossed (in the zone).
After quickly sketching, here’s my under-painting.
After a couple of hours. ta-da!
After some rendering. It’s not my most favourite piece but it was a nice experience and I had a good time out in the sunshine painting anyhow 😀
