For this week’s Artist Feature, we’d like to introduce freelance illustrator and graphic designer Roberto Gonzalez!

Roberto is originally from Mexico and is now based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is an awarded children’s book illustrator and active member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators). With other 20 years of experience, Roberto has worked with most traditional mediums; nowadays, the majority of his work is digital. As a graphic designer, he designs everything from greeting cards to T-shirts to billboards. Whether he’s bringing cute critters and creatures to life or creating cutting-edge textile designs, Roberto brings vibrant colors and his distinct artistic style to every piece of work he produces.

Since Roberto was a kid he loved to draw—it was his way of showing the world the creatures he sees in his mind. He told us that it was the complexity of competitiveness of the children’s illustration market that drew him specifically to kids illustration, adding that “if you were to succeed there, you will do it in anywhere.”

What can we expect next from this talented artist? Roberto is currently working on a kid’s book—we can’t wait to see it!
