The London Book Fair Illustrator’s Afternoon…

…I was contacted by Kieren Phelps this morning and asked if I would mind helping to publicise this event, I agree totally with Kieren, this really should become a big event annually – I just wish I could go myself but alas, deadlines and ‘little feet’ mean that I have to miss it this time around.  Here is all of the information sent over to me…

…The London Book Fair Illustrator’s Afternoon – Wednesday 17 April
A great opportunity for illustration students and practising illustrators to meet art directors from leading publishing houses.

The London Book Fair, Illustration magazine and the University of Gloucestershire BA Illustration course have collaborated to arrange a special event focusing on illustration for children’s publishing.
The event will be held at 2pm on 17 April with four art directors from leading publishers exhibiting at the Book Fair.

Confirmed art Directors are Strawberrie Donnelly, Little Tiger Press, Nick Farr, Orion and Mike Phelps, Igloo Books. Macmillan director tbc.

The event will include:
A panel discussion chaired by Edward Nawotka, Editor of Publishing Perspectives, on all aspects of children’s publishing and illustration, including cover design, digital innovation and the changing landscape.
Portfolio surgery for illustration graduate students and emerging illustrators
Networking opportunity for illustrators and publishers to chat informally

The art directors will be inviting illustrators to show their portfolios and offering advice and feedback on the subject of what they are looking for and how illustrators can attract the attention of a mainstream publisher. At the same time they will be looking forward to seeing some new and fresh ideas and gaining a new perspective from the new generation of illustrators, continuing the increasing involvement with the University of Gloucestershire’s Illustration BA and The London Book Fair.

This event promises to be an important and useful experience for new and graduate illustrators.
