It is with heavy hearts that we announce the recent passing of David Holmes, incredibly talented painter/illustrator and Directory of Illustration member. He will be missed dearly by everyone here at DI.

David was represented by Central Illustration Agency. Here is their statement:

“It is with enormous sadness that we have to announce the passing of the wonderful David Holmes. After training at Ealing Technical College and The Central School of Art David’s career spanned six decades. He worked in advertising for many years, ultimately becoming a founding partner and creative director of Holmes Knight Ritchie before leaving in the early nineties to devote his time to painting and illustration.

David was a great painter, a master of wet-on-wet watercolour—a notoriously difficult medium which he subtly mastered with an apparent but deceptive ease. He was also tremendous company. A great raconteur who traveled the world and enjoyed the very finest things in life. Our thoughts are with David’s family and he’ll be greatly missed by everyone at CIA, especially Brian Grimwood, our founder, who was a great friend and traveling companion of David for some forty years.”
