Truth in Fiction

Title: Truth in Fiction

I got an email from Art Director. Christine Navin at Barnard Magazine (which is issued by Barnard College in New York City) almost a month ago for their editorial piece.

The story is written by Dylan Landis, and titled “Truth in Fiction.” It starts with a story from Landis’s novel of this young, talented, but damaged girl named Rainey Royal and her troubled friends. It eventually develops a discussion of how readers/audiences see its author’s actual (or non-fictional) experience in her fictional novel.  It is really delicate and definitely gives me a different interesting point of view to read “fictional” story next time.

I really enjoyed the whole process of this assignment (hope AD. Christine did too… haha)

We started from tumbnails;

Truth in Fiction

She liked the idea of #5, so I played with it more;

Then #3, but no hands, and colour comps;

Truth in Fiction

Okay, #2!!

Truth in Fiction

and colour this!

(Sorry, I totally forgot to take some screenshots of colouring process)

Anyway, this happened after all.

Truth in Fiction

and I got this in a print as well:)

Cool, eh?

It was really wonderful to work with AD. Christine.  She was very quick, always available, on-point to what she wants to see, and guided me through this!  Thank you so much!!

Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers,
