It’s been awhile since I’ve shared some illustration work, so I thought I’d take a break from the discussion posts and share some work. Years ago I had a client named My Michelle, a sister company to the much larger Kellwood corporation. I was hired to create these girls to help promote their juniors line. They would go on all kinds of apparel and promotional items. It was an exciting gig for a kid who just got into the design world.
The buyer wanted the girls to be hip, cool and have attitude. The illustrations were a success and it led to more work, which was great! Well, it’s more than 10 years later and I was looking at this old piece and saw so many mistakes and bad choices. No one’s eye is more critical than a designer’s own. So I went back and made some changes and improvements while still maintaining the essence of what was there before. The piece was originally sketched out and scanned, then redrawn using Adobe Illustrator. It was fun to go back and see how far I’ve come.
