The Long Tall Texans – “Headless”

I’ve been producing record covers and t-shirt designs for Brighton rockabilly band the Long Tall Texans since the mid-1980s and they’ve always been a real joy to work on. This mini-album was their most recent release and the brief for the cover, as ever, consisted of little more than the title. The rest was left up to me. I’m pretty familiar with the group and the type of imagery appreciated by their fanbase by now but even so, that’s a very open spec compared to most illustration jobs and a rare pleasure to be given so much creative freedom.

“I interpreted the title quite literally and placed the decapitated band members in an imagined mad professor’s gothic laboratory, while their heads floated in tanks nearby, subject to some unspecified experimentation. Great fun to do and everyone seemed to love it!”
