On this Sunday morning I wanted to share some pictures of the process of creating the illustrations in this picture book. It takes a long time from the idea and concept until you are happy with the outcome. For the illustrations I tried different mediums and styles, until I found the one it felt right. 

To work on the human characters, sometimes I use picture references. For Neil’s character I decided to take pictures of myself doing the expressions I was looking for. When you don’t have a model, internet can be a resource, but most of the times it takes longer to find those images than taking the picture yourself. I knew exactly what pose I was looking for, so it was a quick thing to do. After that I used those pictures to make sure the characters had a “natural” appearance.
