Like most prequels, this blog was written after my first intial posts, even though I dated it earlier. If the tv shows and movies can do prequels after the other series starts, I figured I could.

I was a writer by trade for decades. It’s what I went to school for and what I thought I’d be doing for the rest of my life. It was the fire that lit my soul or so I thought.

Then, the fire burnt out.

I probably burned out because my writing was business writing, internal communication, radio copy, print ads, marketing promotions, website content, product descriptions and technical writing. And I was successful.

There was some feature writing for a regional magazine and curriculum development for a preschool mixed in there. But, mostly my writing was to convince you why you needed this or how this would help you.

Art has always been my real passion, my avocation; but it’s only been my vocation in spurts. Yet, writing was still there if only in my head.

I knew as a marketing professional blogging was important to ranking and exposure. Could I even write a blog? I mean everyone was doing it. But did I really want to go there? Could I be committed? My writing for public consumption had always been assignment driven.

Suddenly, I realized I had been writing all along. My monthly art-related social media posts were more than a few sentences. I wrote somewhat lengthy posts explaining “the why” I was inspired to create and post an illustration. I literally felt the writing embers begin to burn. It all made so much sense now.

So, I’m write “my why” … the story behind the art, the illustration or creation. May this new fire stay lit.
