And that’s a wrap for my second season of Creative Art Works intensive mural experience with NYC’s Summer Youth Employment Program—6 weeks for youth ages 16-25 to create murals: interview a client, conceptualize images, design, pitch the client, and execute the painting. We created three murals this year for the Queens Family Courthouse, restored some older ones in the same building, and had some fun along the way, playing silly games—ahem—team building, learning how to collaborate, and exercising basic art skills. Learned so much from partner Abby Walsh about digging for emotional seeds that germinate into ideas, allowing the time for thoughts and creativity to sit and brew, and streamlining the painting process.
