Earlier this year, the Trump Administration illegally withheld and attempted to unilaterally eliminate funding for research at universities across the United States. Some schools sued and saw their funding restored. However, in most cases this proved to be a somewhat  pyrrhic victory. The temporary loss of funding forced many researchers to permanently abandon their projects. Others found that their data was corrupted or lost, forcing them back to square one. The Chronicle of Higher Education looks at how universities are dealing with the the rescission and restorations of federal funding and the ongoing threat the Republican Party poses to America’s research institutions.
