This week, the Directory of Illustration is proud to present an artist feature on Jason Raish and his fantastic “Croquet & Ink” series.

THE WORK

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Jason Raish’s series “Croquet & Ink” was chosen and awarded a Silver Medal from the Society of Illustrators for their 65 Annual Show. His artwork benefited the The FIT Black Student Illustrators Award.

“The 1950’s was a repressed era where racism was pervasive. As I searched for 50’s photo references, I found that 100% of the models were Caucasian so I used people of color in my art.” ~ Jason

“Prim and proper meets rebellion and self expression.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Jason Raish was born in South Korea and grew up in the forests of western New York state. He went on a 6 year adventure living and freelancing with old and new clients around the world including places such as Beijing, Tokyo, Barcelona, Seoul, London, and Paris. Now he lives and works in Park Slope, Brooklyn and you can find him jogging around the park with his rescue Husky Dubuchim. He’s received recognition and honors from The Society of Illustrators NY and LA, Communication Arts, American Illustration, 3×3, and Spectrum. Clients include: New York Times, Saatchi and Saatchi, Leo Burnett, The Times, Radio Times, and more.
