THE WORK

Illustrator: Christian Dellavedova

Client: Internazionale (February Issue)

Agent: AAA Rep

From the Artist: I was asked by the Italian magazine Internazionale to illustrate the Zadie Smith short story “The fall of my teen-age self: stolen cigarettes and windowsill.”A brilliant short story where the author take the chance to reflect about teenagers in this particular moment and what teenage years represented in her life. I was proactive as always when I work for Internazionale to express my artistic and graphic opinion as I always do on everything I’m asked to illustrate. Since I have the same age of Zadie Smith I decided to use all my pop graphic memories from the eighties (’80 Haring and Naj-oleari atmosphere first of all) to illustrate her story with a very simple, direct and graphic style. I was thinking initially about a simple portrait with a story around but after reflecting a little about it, I realize how the real thing is that we are living-walking-books of stories and so decided to put the story inside a portrait of Zadie’s face.”
