FROM THE ARTIST: I was asked by the art director of the Italian magazine L’Espresso to illustrate an interview with the Middle Ages historian, Amedeo Feniello. In the interview, Feniello explains how and what we can learn from the Middle Ages and generally from the past to front the recent pandemic challenges. I was asked to represent in my conceptual illustration the issue of the “Adaptive landscape.” A conceptual illustration is always the best way to explain difficult issues in a very simple metaphor. I came out with this idea of a new world replacing the old one pushed by the unexpected wave of events created by the pandemic. For these illustrations I used a very limited palette and few textures sure that the elements of the page were enough to convey the message.
