Serendipity is luck in finding valuable or pleasant things that you weren’t looking for. Finding art you love is much like that, too. So, take a look around my website, you just might find what you didn’t know you were looking for. And know that commissions are always welcome.
Fleurs-de-Lis are lily flowers, stylized of course. This symbol is long associated with France, New Orleans and Louisville, Kentucky.
I lived in Louisville for 26 years and much of my art was inspired by my hometown. My beautiful city was named in honor of King Louis XVI of France and adopted his symbol of fleur-de-lis as well.
Fleur-di-Lis symbols were derigur (keeping with the French theme here) in the ‘ville from logos to home decor. Catching the symbol’s vibe, I created my own – freely drawn and painted with no corrections or editing. It sold to a man painting the walls of my foyer the very day I finished it. He and his wife had been married in New Orleans and coincidentally it was their anniversary.
Selling art, like most things, is timing … serendipity.
I recently posted this painting on my sold page. My best friend saw it and requested a commission. “But make it more New Orleans in color, just purples, greens and golds, except leave this one Fleur-di-Lis as it is,” she requested. Absolutely.
That’s the beauty of commissions. You can choose what you want, and I will comply.
I delivered her painting today and it was exactly what she wanted. She was thrilled. I was thrilled. And, soon, the painting will live in its new home in New Orleans.
