“THE GENDER PROJECT”
Lynne St. Clare Foster | ARTFAIR 14 C
About the Gender Project, from the artist: “The objective of the Gender Project: Re-Imaging Gender is to examine the way we see ourselves in relationship to our gender, aiming to create a space where we can re-imagine ourselves within a nonbinary context. Although the stories told here cross the entire gender spectrum, there are many parallels. In the end the universal desire for each person is to live as their authentic selves with acceptance, respect and love. The role of gender is no longer rigid and neatly defined.
Most people living on a spectrum choose specific pronouns to define themselves but not all do. These portraits are of people who identify as gender non conforming as well as people who consider themselves binary, or cis-gendered. This poses
the idea that, although people may present a clear image in relationship to their gender, when questioned, they may discover that they may actually fall on a spectrum. Here we open the possibility for creating acceptance of people who reside
in every part of this gender spectrum. My intention is to create, through visual language, a new awareness that revitalizes our connection to gender, while beginning to answer the questions that arise as we re-imagine that part of ourselves.” ~ Lynne St. Clare Foster
