WORK SHOWCASE:
Kevin Sprouls’ New Book

This week, the Directory of Illustration is excited to highlight Kevin Sprouls and his new book, “Mince of Heathermere,” which he wrote and illustrated.
Mince of Heathermere
About the Work: After decades in the making, illustrator Kevin Sprouls has finally published Mince of Heathermere, a project he first began in art school in 1977. Though originally left unfinished, the book was recently brought to life with the help of retired book designer Mike Havecott, a neighbor in Tryon, NC. Together, they reimagined and organized the work digitally using Adobe InDesign, refining every detail for print. The final result—produced by BookBaby—is a beautifully crafted edition that brings Sprouls’ long-held vision to life.
About the Artist: Kevin Sprouls is the illustrator who introduced the signature portrait style to The Wall Street Journal in 1979. A former Assistant Art Director at the paper, he has since built a prolific freelance career, contributing his engraving-inspired style to major publications and brands including Worth, Fortune, GQ, and Time International. His work has been featured in the Smithsonian, the National Portrait Gallery online, and other prominent exhibitions. He lives with his family in the foothills of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains.
