The Directory of Illustration is proud to present a special feature on Fatinha Ramos and her wonderful illustrations for the children’s book The Boy Who Liked to Draw Cats, written by Michael de Cock and published by Standaard Uitgeverij (Belgium).

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Some stories have been around for centuries. They were experienced and invented, told and retold in another time, or in distant lands. But they don’t disappear. They travel through space and time and continue to fascinate people of all countries, classes and times. Do you know why? Because they are stories from and about people. People with dreams and desires, passions and fears. The world may change, but those things always stay the same.
FROM THE ARTIST: “This is a book filled with different fairytales inspired by ancient Asian stories. My illustrations are inspired by Asian culture, while maintaining my personal artistic voice.” – Fatinha
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Fatinha is an award-winning illustrator and visual artist based in Antwerp and originally from Portugal. After working in art direction and design for twelve years, she took a giant leap and followed her dream, working full-time as an illustrator.
Fatinha’s work has appeared all over the world and she has received numerous awards, including the Society of Illustrators NY, 3×3 Magazine, Communication Arts, Global Illustration Award, White Ravens and she was the overall winner of the World Illustration Awards 2021.
Fatinha is represented by Rapp Art.
Fatinha is also the amazing cover artist of the Directory of Illustration No. 38! We sat down with her for an interview to learn about her creative process behind this year’s beautiful cover design. The theme for DI38 is “Lead With Love,” in celebration of inclusivity, diversity and embracing a better and brighter future.
