Artist Feature: Mike Tofanelli

For this week’s Artist Feature, the Directory of Illustration would like to introduce the whimsical caricature work of Mike Tofanelli.

Mike has been a freelance illustrator for about 25 years since graduating with distinction from San Francisco’s Academy of Art College (now University). His artistic wheelhouse is editorial, storytelling images with a humorous twist and a keen focus on caricature. Mike resides in Sacramento, California with his wife Shirley, a graphic designer and fine artist, and their temperamental cat Mocha.

Over the years, Mike has amassed a client list that includes Rolling Stone, Major League Baseball, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, Scholastic, AT&T, Boys’ Life, TV Guide, and McGraw-Hill. His work has won recognition from American Illustration, 3×3 International Illustration, and the Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles.

Here is a glimpse at some of the hilarious and colorful characters from Mike’s enormous portfolio of caricature art. This is just the tip of the iceberg, so be sure to check out his portfolio and website for more illustrations!
