For this Artist Spotlight, we’d like to share botanical artist Deborah Shaw! Deborah Shaw has a degree in fine art from Pomona College, where she had the good fortune to study botany and native California flora.

Ms. Shaw is an active member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, the Southwest Society of Botanical Artists, and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators! She has taught botanical art at the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Virginia Robinson Gardens. She has also taught illustration, digital design, and information design at the University of California, Irvine – where she was the recipient of the “Distinguished Instructor” award.

She is the principal of dbShaw Studios, an award-winning multi-disciplinary design company that specializes in print, information design, web design, illustration, and scientific illustration.

Deborah’s work has been displayed internationally in multiple exhibitions, including the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation’s permanent collection. Different works of her’s are also part of the Botanical Collections at The Huntington Library. She has received numerous awards for art, illustration, and design. Her favorite mediums include graphite, watercolor, colored pencil, pen and ink, scratchboard, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
